Introducing TradeGuard: The Automated Risk Engine Built for Futures Traders

The Problem Every Serious Trader Knows

You've been there. You set a rule: "I'm done for the day after a $500 loss." And then the market does something unexpected — a spike against you, a news release, a gap. Your account is down $480. You tell yourself one more trade. Just to get back to even.

Three trades later, you're down $1,200.

This isn't a knowledge problem. Every trader knows they shouldn't revenge trade. Every funded account holder knows the rules. The problem is that in the heat of the moment, the emotional brain overrides the rational brain — and no alert, no popup, no rule written on a sticky note can stop it.

Willpower is not a trading strategy. Automation is.

What TradeGuard Does

TradeGuard is a Chrome Extension + backend system that monitors your live Tradovate account and automatically enforces the risk rules you set for yourself — before you have a chance to violate them.

Here's how it works in three steps:

1. Configure Your Rules

In the TradeGuard dashboard, you set hard limits. These aren't soft warnings — they are hard constraints:

  • Max Daily Loss: e.g., -$500. Once hit, positions are flattened instantly.
  • Max Losing Trades: Stop after 3 losing trades, regardless of dollar amount.
  • Max Trades Per Day: Force high-probability setups by capping your trade count.
  • Consecutive Loss Streak: Trigger a lockout after 2 consecutive losers.
  • Time-Based Curfews: Block trading during low-volume hours.

2. Trade Normally

Once you install the extension and connect your Tradovate session, TradeGuard operates silently in the background. It reads your real-time PnL and order activity, passing that data to our backend for continuous monitoring. You don't change your workflow at all.

3. Automatic Enforcement

The millisecond you breach a rule, TradeGuard fires. Depending on your configuration:

  • Soft Lockout: Positions are flattened, trading is paused for a set duration (e.g., 15 minutes). After the timer, you can trade again.
  • Hard Lockout: Positions are flattened and trading is disabled for the remainder of the session. This resets at a configurable daily time (e.g., 5:00 PM EST).

Importantly, new orders placed during a lockout are also caught and liquidated immediately. There's no way to bypass the system.

Who Is TradeGuard For?

TradeGuard is built for three types of traders:

Funded Account Traders (Prop Firms): If you're trading with Apex, Topstep, My Funded Futures, or any other firm, you have strict drawdown rules. A single blown day can mean losing a $100,000 evaluation account. TradeGuard is your insurance policy.

Discretionary Day Traders: Even experienced traders experience tilt — the psychological spiral after a loss that leads to progressively worse decisions. TradeGuard breaks the cycle automatically.

Traders Scaling Their Practice: If you're building a track record or testing a new strategy, consistent rule adherence is everything. TradeGuard ensures your data is clean, your drawdowns are controlled, and your edge compounds over time.

The Technology

TradeGuard runs as a lightweight Chrome Extension that interfaces directly with your active Tradovate tab. It uses a low-latency WebSocket connection to our backend, which processes your account data and sends enforcement signals back to the extension.

Our monitoring loop runs with sub-50ms latency — fast enough to catch and flatten positions before a small breach becomes a catastrophic one.

All of this happens without you needing to route orders through a third-party broker or change your trading setup. It's a layer on top of your existing workflow, not a replacement.

Free to Use

TradeGuard is currently free during our beta period. We wanted to get this tool into the hands of as many traders as possible as quickly as possible, because we believe automated risk management should be the standard — not a luxury.
